DRAMA

“What do you see?” “What is art – and who gets to decide?” Famed abstract impressionist painter Mark Rothko asks his new assistant, Ken, these loaded questions. It’s 1958, and Rothko has just been offered the biggest commission in the history of modern art – a series of murals for New York s famed Four Seasons Restaurant. He and Ken work feverishly in his New York studio “until Ken begins to realize his answers to those fundamental questions about art are very different than his mentor’s. When Ken gains the confidence to challenge his mentor, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. Winner of six Tony Awards in 2010, this sizzling 90-minute drama makes us all question is there true art in the face of searing ambition? Or does an artist ‘sell out’ for commercial success?
