Classes for Adults and High School Age
Our classes, taught by experienced teachers, provide comprehensive instruction and honest feedback that is designed to help you reach your goals, build confidence, and strengthen performance skills. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced thespian, our engaging lessons are designed to welcome everyone and assist you on your journey to becoming the best performer you can be!
Our theatrical camps are performance-focused and designed to help campers grow theatre skills, meet new friends, and boost confidence. These camps are an amazing opportunity for budding performers to try new things and showcase their talents on the Civic Auditorium stage.
The Academy of Theatre Arts is thrilled to present free Audition Workshops for each production of the season. Led by the production’s artistic team, these workshops provide participants with a chance to familiarize themselves with the audition material. Additionally, personalized tips and feedback are offered during the session. Registration for these workshops opens two months prior to each event. Please note, dates are subject to change based upon staff availability.
The workshops cover the performers audition only – they may include information but not instruction about crew opportunities.
We believe that finances should never hinder a student’s pursuit of their passion. To support this belief, we are delighted to provide partial scholarships for students of all ages.
Things to Know
Should we need to close due to poor driving conditions, we will post a notice on WWM TV 3. To sign up for text alerts please choose Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. We will also send emails to our class lists. In the event that a class needs to be canceled, we will make every effort to offer a makeup session, often by extending the series by a week.
We ask that our students follow two simple rules: Safety First and Kindness Always! We encourage students to welcome challenges and to try something new.
Students are asked to wear closed-toed shoes that do not kick off easily during classes and camps. Clothing should be chosen for comfort and movability. If a class has more specific requirements, that information will be included in the email sent out the week prior to class start.
Where Summer classes/camps are listed by grades levels, please register for the grade the student will be entering in the fall. Preschool students should be at least 3 years of age and able to use the restroom independently.
Where classes/camps are listed by ages, please register for the program that matches your age on the first day of class.
Students in all-day camps will need to bring a packed lunch each day. We cannot provide refrigeration or microwaves for the students.
Students are encouraged to bring water bottles to class. We will provide opportunities for bottle refilling throughout classes.
