A Streetcar Named Desire

March 1, 2002 — March 16, 2002

Parish Theatre

“They told me to take a streetcar named Desire and then transfer to one called Cemetery and ride six blocks and then get off at Elysian Fields.” So says Blanche DuBois, a delicate, but fading southern beauty who is fleeing the ugly reality of her past. Having lost her youth, her husband, her inheritance, and her livelihood, she arrives penniless in New Orleans to stay with her younger sister, Stella, and Stella’s brutish husband, Stanley Kowalski. As Blanche’s last remaining hopes of happiness are destroyed, she descends into madness and despair.
