Position Summary

Part-Time/Seasonal

The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre is seeking a service-minded individual to join us as a bartender, beginning with our 2024-2025 Season.  The successful candidate will enjoy working with the public, have a positive attitude, and be solution oriented. This position is seasonal, and approximately twelve (12) hours per week, primarily weekends and evenings. The Bartender is responsible for greeting customers at the bar providing timely and friendly service ensuring guests are having a great experience. The main tasks include taking drink/food orders, pouring drinks, restocking, cleaning, busing tables, and closing out tabs.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare, sell and distribute drinks to patrons while delivering a consistent high level of customer service ensuring a positive guest experience for all
  • Arrive early to prep and set up bar area
  • Ensure compliance with relevant MLCC regulations, including, but not limited to,
    • Verifying age of patrons
    • Properly storing alcohol and supplies
    • Monitoring patron consumption
    • Accurately charging patrons for drinks
  • Maintaining an organized and safe bar area
  • Assist with the restocking and replenishment of bar inventory, supplies, and merchandise.
  • In addition to facilitating the sale of alcohol, bartenders may also sell concessions
  • Identify problem patrons and have them removed if necessary
  • Able to work well with volunteers and other staff in close proximity

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be reliable, including having reliable transportation and the ability to arrive to work as schedule and on time
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and communicate well with all patrons, making everyone feel welcome and appreciated
  • Must have prior cash handling experience and excellent customer service skills
  • TIPS certification is a plus

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, this position may be required to stand for long periods of time, walk, squat, bend, kneel, push, pull, talk, listen, and any other hospitality type of functions typical for this type of role.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to complete tasks
  • Requires ability to talk and hear
  • Requires frequent standing as well as lifting up to 50lbs
