CIVIC READER’S THEATRE DRAMA
A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman homestead explodes in a frenzy of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the acid tongued, pill-popping cancer patient matriarch, and you’ve got a play that unflinchingly, and uproariously, exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family. Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play is dense and funny, vicious and compassionate, enormous and unstoppable!
The Civic Reader’s Theatre program was established eleven years ago as a way of providing more performance opportunities for our veteran actors. Needless to say, this reader’s theatre program has proven to be very popular with volunteers and patrons alike. It is designed to meet the needs of actors 50 and older. All productions are “reader’s theatre” in nature, lines and lyrics are learned but not memorized.
