The historic Civic Auditorium became the permanent home of the Kalamazoo Civic Players in 1931. It was built under the direction of Dr. John Upjohn as a performance venue for his daughter, Dorothy Dalton. The building has been updated and renovated many times, including the addition of a business office for the Civic’s administrative staff. The copper roof was replaced in 2018 and shines like a beacon in downtown Kalamazoo.
