Human Resources Associate

Position Summary

The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre is seeking a dedicated and dynamic HR Professional to oversee employee development, performance evaluation, and day-to-day management of HR activities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a positive work environment, enhancing employee skills, and supporting organizational growth through effective HR strategies.

Essential Functions

Employee Development

  • Design, budget and implement training programs that enhance employee skills and promote professional growth
    • Conduct needs assessment to identify areas for development and training across the organization
    • Collaborate with department leaders to tailor development initiatives to specific team needs
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary

Performance Evaluation

  • Along with the Executive Director, develop and manage the performance evaluation process, ensuring it aligns with organization goals and values
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance management best practices, including goal setting and feedback
  • Facilitate performance review process and ensure timely completion of evaluations

Day-to-Day HR Management and Employee Relations

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition into the company
    • Process employee benefits, including enrolling employees in benefits programs and related paperwork
  • Support employee engagement and team building initiatives and help create a positive workplace culture
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with updating and maintaining employee policies and Handbook

Collaboration and Communication

  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels, fostering a transparent and inclusive environment

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in human resources, with a focus on employee relations, development and performance management
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment laws
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across the organization

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent sitting and walking
  • The physical ability to travel between the various Civic building locations is required.
